According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, acne is the most common skin condition in the U.S., affecting more than 50 million Americans annually. No longer reserved for those in adolescence, this staggering statistic reflects a growing number of adults who are now struggling with chronic breakouts. Recent surveys conclude that adult acne occurs in up to 15% of the female population. The growing rate of this condition has been a driving force behind ongoing acne research and further development of effective treatment solutions. One widely adopted approach to acne resolution includes the use of prescription-strength and OTC topicals, such as retinol derivatives and antibacterial agents. While this protocol may be beneficial for some, there are often negative side effects associated with prolonged use. In fact, a patient study published in the Journal of International Medical Research found that more than 45% of the participants discontinued traditional acne therapy before the scheduled time due to unresponsiveness or adverse side effects.

Many acne treatments, especially those prescribed by a medical professional, can be harsh on the skin, resulting in other issues like intense dryness, hyperpigmentation and overall inflammation. Research by Mintel suggests that consumers are displaying an affinity for targeted products with gentler attributes. With this in mind, skincare brands have an opportunity to simplify consumers’ routines and ease the side effects of aggressive actives with products that both address common skin challenges like acne, while providing comprehensive barrier support. Although Twincraft is OTC certified, we were inspired to formulate concepts that would reduce blemishes by addressing skin imbalances without the use of common ingredients such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide.

Our latest collection of product innovations includes the Balanced Barrier Serum, which utilizes Dendriclear to create a more harmonious microbiome by selectively targeting acne-causing bacteria, decreasing inflammation, and reducing the buildup of skin cells. A clinical study performed on 19 volunteers using Dendriclear showed a rebalanced acnebiome after a 28-day period, with a reduction in the appearance of various types of acne lesions. While this serum is used as a daily preventative measure, we wanted to complement it with a spot treatment that could be used for blemish intervention. Magic Eraser combines nourishing Bisabolol and the gentle antibacterial benefits of Seboclear to stop breakouts in their tracks without causing excessive dryness or irritation, resulting in faster healing time. Unlike traditional spot treatments, Magic Eraser uses our Natural Gel base, a lightweight and easily absorbed format that allows for seamless skincare and makeup layering.
