There are two kinds of people in this world: people who love antiperspirants, and people who love natural deodorant. And never the twain shall meet. Until now.
Gone are the aluminum fears of the early 2000's. Consumer sentiment has finally caught up to the debunked myths around antiperspirant deodorant. Even so, up until the last few years, natural deodorant brands and antiperspirant brands have stayed in their own lanes. Recently though, we've noticed a shift. Consumer spending on routine products like bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant is at an all-time high. At the same time, we're hearing more natural deodorant brands looking for ways to innovate a tried and true category while consumers are looking for antiperspirants that feel more elevated and geared towards sensitive skin. Welcome to: the great aluminum rebrand of 2026.
Here are the trends that are bringing natural brands back to the AP table:
Antiperspirants are borrowing skincare ingredients and claims. New products launches are featuring recognizable skincare actives to support skin comfort and condition. Ceramides, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, castor oil, bisabolol and vitamin B5 are the top ingredient stories for underarm care. Sensitive skin, irritation, and dryness are top marketing claims for skin-first antiperspirant stories. Minimalist formulas are also having a moment; fragrance-free, dye-free, alcohol-free, and short ingredient lists are making AP feel more natural and soothing. Premium brands can leverage simple, skin-first formulas and pair with "long-lasting" claims.
Clinical strength claims are the main reason for the antiperspirant's cult following. Mintel noted that "long-lasting" is the top purchase driver for antiperspirant purchases. Prescription-adjacent strengths of 15–25% aluminum compounds are now normal drugstore picks. Leverage 48–72 hour wear claims will pique consumer interest in the prestige space.
Mass brands still hold about 92% of the market, but premium is growing faster. Skincare-adjacent formats are signaling premium positioning. While sprays still hold about half the market, roll-ons are the fastest-growing format. Creams and gels are growing along with whole-body use. Refillable and low-waste packaging are giving consumers proof behind claims like “100% natural.” Elevated fragrances, reduced clothing marks, effortless glide, vegan, and natural claims are all part of what elevates this category for premium brands and justifies a higher price point.
